MLM's are a scam!
It started with a post on Indeed where they labeled as a "Brand Ambassador." I applied because getting paid weekly and "going around to community events and networking for a nonprofit that supports abused and neglected kids" sounded like an amazing opportunity.
First of all, nothing that is paid purely by commission should require 3 rounds of interviews!!!
Second of all, "community events" were standing by a table outside of restaurants or stores- wherever they wanted to send you- and doing the whole harassing people as they walked out.
The second interview was me talking to this guy outside of buffalo wild wings for over an hour about the job. He repeated himself multiple times, granted he was 19 so probably nervous, and they were trying to grow a team for him to manage? Okay. After that interview, they had me go through a third round interview where they just reiterated questions they had already asked me. They were big on selling getting paid by commission.
Benefits wouldn't kick in until you get to the level of opening your own office. Mind you, requires no education or anything, yet they're a marketing firm. He also couldn't answer the question about time off.
They were big on the whole "you have competition so make sure you stand out" thing. I'm pretty sure they were trying to hire everyone. After all of that, I managed to get it. I was pretty excited at first not gonna lie. Of course after I got home and was asked questions about benefits and time off, questions I couldn't answer by the way, did I realize something didn't seem right.
I was sent a reddit post about people complaining about MLMs disguising themselves as marketing firms. They also used the phrase "Brand Ambassador." They wanted people dressing in business casual and sending them to off the wall places. Granted, when it happened to me they sent me to a place that was leased out in a bank so I wanted to believe it was legit.
I wish it were. I wish it was what it advertised itself as being. Everyone was really nice, but alas. Not for me. I'm sure MLMs are successful for some people, but my experiences has always been scams. Don't even get me started on Herbalife. (Products work, but definitely an MLM)
Anyway, if you reached the end of this, thanks for reading. If you're actively applying for jobs be careful. This is happening more and more lately.
